Situation in "Good Doctor for the Great Family - Seminar on DM Wellness Testing" in Bandung, West Java.
Bandung, 13 May 2017 - The number of diabetes mellitus (DM) sufferers in Indonesia continues to soar up every year. Diabetes mellitus (DM) spreading within Indonesian people is closely related to the unbalanced lifestyle and diet. The latest data in 2016 provided by the International Diabetes Federation showed that diabetes is the world' s concern, given that one of 11 adults suffers from diabetes, 12% of the health fund has been globally allocated for diabetes, and one of seven childbirths will be affected by gestational diabetes.
The Indonesian Society of Endocrinology (PERKENI) stated that the number of diabetes sufferers in Indonesia has increased up to 9.1 million people. In fact, Indonesia has climbed two steps up from 7th to 5th position among the countries with the highest number of diabetes sufferers in the world. This is worrying, considering that Indonesia was still on the 10th position in 2010. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the number of diabetics in Indonesia will continue to elevate from 8.4 million in 2000 to approximately 21.3 million in 2030.
Based on that problem, Prodia Clinical Laboratory conducts the wellness testing campaign to prevent the spread of DM in Indonesia through the seminars for doctors in 16 big cities. Today a seminar for doctor was conducted at the Ballroom of Harris Hotel Ciumbuleuit, Bandung taking the theme "Good Doctor for the Great Family - Seminar on DM Wellness Testing". Bandung is the fourth city to hold this seminar and the other big cities will host the next. The speakers in the seminar were Dr. Hikmat Permana, Sp.PD-KEMD-FINASIM speaking about the risk factors and DM complications, dr. Nanny N. M. Soetedjo, SpPD-KEMD., M.Kes-DCN., FINASIM speaking about DM management, and Emmy F. Harefa, S.Si., M.Kes as the speaker on the biomarker role for diabetes wellness program. The moderator of the seminar was dr. Augusta Y. L Arifin, Sp.PD-KEMD., FINASIM.
Prodia Clinical Laboratory as the partner for the clinicians holds a seminar on DM for doctors, especially those who work on primary services. The roadshow of seminar for doctors has been held since 2011 in 9 big cities and today in 16 big cities.
By conducting the seminar, the doctors are expected to understand the information about wellness testing to identify the risk at the early stage of the disease development, to provide the information for the clinicians on proper management of Prediabetes and Diabetes Mellitus based on accurate diagnosis, to support a proper implementation of diagnosis and early management for a better prevention and treatment of Prediabetes and Diabetes Mellitus, and to make the seminar a chance to discuss and share the experiences in treating Prediabetes and Diabetes Mellitus cases with their colleagues.
Diabetes mellitus testing comprehension is based on things to measure in the test, its capability, and other interrelated factors. The advancement of laboratory testing technology, such as the improvement in testing methodology sensitivity and specificity, has exposed the laboratory test as an important part of diabetes mellitus diagnosis, therapy, and monitoring.
